In an election year with historic voter turnout, �Ա���Ƶ organizations mobilized to help register new voters, encourage students to vote in Madison County, and create easy access to polling sites.

�Ա���Ƶ will hold its annual celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. in a virtual format, Jan. 25–Feb. 5, 2021.

�Ա���Ƶ is an inaugural member of a new consortium of liberal arts colleges and universities finding creative solutions for addressing issues of racial equity and diversity on campus. 

As part of its Native American Heritage Month celebrations, �Ա���Ƶ’s ALANA Cultural Center hosted a virtual panel on “Experiences of the Pandemic in the Native Americas” on Nov. 2.

Historically, young adults have the lowest rate of voter turnout of all groups. In 2016, only 48% of �Ա���Ƶ students voted. The �Ա���Ƶ Vote Project — a student volunteer organization — hopes to change that.

One of the facets of �Ա���Ƶ’s strategy to detect signs of SARS-CoV2 on campus is the broad use of wastewater testing to find any early indications of spreading coronavirus. The plan received national attention, with news outlets like CBS mentioning the effort as a stand out among many of the college reopening plans across the country. 

Students from more than 70 student groups have joined together to form a super-organization, the �Ա���Ƶ Student Coalition, to raise bail funds for individuals arrested as part of protests that have swept the nation in the wake of George Floyd’s death. 

Esther Rosbrook, assistant director of �Ա���Ƶ’s ALANA Cultural Center, will assume the director position on June 1. She is currently serving as the center’s assistant director.
