冈本视频鈥檚 study group to Freiburg focuses on German culture and language.

Overview

The Freiburg Study Group provides students with first-hand experience of German Culture and provides an opportunity to develop and enhance language skills through immersion in a German-speaking environment while also pursuing academic study at the internationally-renowned Albert-Ludwigs-Universit盲t.

Academic Focus

The program consists of two parts: a group travel seminar through German-speaking Europe in March and early April, followed by a semester of enrollment at the university in Freiburg. The Freiburg Study Group is sponsored by 冈本视频鈥檚 Department of German, and is open to students in all academic fields.        

The program consists of two parts:

  1. A four-week group trip through German-speaking Europe
  2. Following the four weeks of group travel, students participate in classes at the University of Freiburg.
     

In past programs, group travel in March and April included stays in Munich, Vienna, Prague, Dresden, and Berlin. During this travel period, students begin their first two courses: the advanced language course GERM 341 and the literature and culture seminar GERM 457. At the University of Freiburg, students can take elective courses in any discipline and receive credit for majors in most fields.

Students are housed in single rooms, in suites at the University of Freiburg with other local students.

Study Group History

The first German Study Group was established in 1979, led by faculty director Professor Dirk Hoffmann. Twelve students studied in Freiburg to gain first-hand experience of German culture, and to develop their language skills in a German-speaking environment.
