ITHACA, N.Y. – The ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ women’s track and field team had several strong individual showings this weekend at the Cornell Challenge. The Raiders were led by freshman Danielle Whicher (North Reading, Mass.) who took home a first place finish in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:58.46 placing her third on ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s all-time record board. The race was Whicher’s first-ever appearance in 5,000 meter competition.
Sophomore Lisa Germain (Queensbury, N.Y.) was ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s second leading point-scorer on the weekend. She took 7th place in the 60 meter dash in 8.07 seconds and 7th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.11 meters (18’07.00′). Her highest finish of the day was a fourth place performance in the long jump where she posted a leap of 5.66 meters (18’07.00′).
Jess Dunton (Lebanon Springs, N.Y.) and Rachel Pettengill (Sudbury, Mass.) joined Whicher in the 5,000 meter race. They placed 12th and 13th respectively with times of 19:45.85 and 20.08.02. Freshmen Nicole Christoforo (Rockland, Mass.) and Macrina Seals (Pennellville, N.Y.) placed ninth and 11th respectively in the mile run. Christoforo crossed the finish line in 5:26.44, while Seals posted a time of 5:29.21.
Emily Thomson (Billerica, Mass.) was 11th in the 500 meter dash with a mark of 1:33.01 and freshman Mary Pratt (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was sixth in the 800 meter dash finishing in 2:29.20. Elizabeth Crowley (West Simsbury, Conn.) competed in the 1,000 meter dash where she finished ninth in 3:06.74.
In the 3,000 meter run, Hannah Failing (Deerfield, N.Y.) crossed the line in 11th place with a time of 11:13.45, while teammate Lia Cross (Skaneateles, N.Y.) was 17th to finish the race. Nolana Quince (Syracuse, N.Y.) joined Germain in the triple jump competition. She jumped 10.06 meters (33’00.25) placing her 16th in the field.
Shannon O’Hagan (Sarnia, Ont.) was ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ’s lone competitor in the high jump. She placed sixth with a mark of 1.60 meters (5.63.00′). As a team, the Raiders placed sixth out of seven teams. Other teams competing in the meet were Cornell, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, Binghamton, and Ithaca.
The Raiders are back in action next weekend as they head to Boston, Mass. for the Adidas Boston Indoor Games at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
