Studying and spinning before Thanksgiving break

Back to All Stories

mhernandezstopp.jpgThe days have been flying by! Thanksgiving break is just around the corner and I am very ready for a bit of relaxation time.

Classes have been demanding, but I am so amazed at the fact that much of what I learn in one class can be related to what I’m learning in another. These connections can be made regardless of the course material, and seeing the benefits of this type of education is truly helpful in confirming why I chose ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ.

I’ve been attending a spinning class every Monday and Wednesday, and I definitely feel the burn. I’m so glad to have the opportunity to exercise while still doing something fun.

My instructor pushes all of us to the limit; but even though the class is hard, I feel great afterward.

This weekend should be extremely fun, seeing as it will be the last weekend I spend with my friends before Thanksgiving.

I will most definitely be seeing Henry Butler in concert at the Palace Theater. He’s a legendary jazz musician and I’m sure he will bring a small taste of New Orleans with him to spice up ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ!

Not to mention my friend, Kunal Shetty ’11, was very much involved in bringing Mr. Butler and the band Gent Treadly to campus. All my peers are so supportive of me, and so I am eager to return the act.

I also would like to catch the movie Dying to be Thin on Saturday. The movie touches upon the issue of eating disorders and I would like to learn more about it, and discuss it further with fellow students.

Sunday I will dedicate to working on the many research papers I have due in a few weeks. But that is nothing new!

For Thanksgiving I will be staying on campus. I hear there is going to be a Thanksgiving dinner hosted at ALANA. Thank goodness for that because Thanksgiving would be utterly un-exciting unless a feast is involved.

I do miss my family back home, but I trust the people I’m staying here with, and I know I’m in good hands. I will be sure to write as soon as break is over!

(I’ve been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ. Until next time!)
