Silverthorn Named ECAC Goaltender of the Week

CAPE COD, Mass.’ Sophomore goaltender Steve Silverthorn (Owen Sound, Ont.) of the ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ men’s hockey team was named the ECAC Goaltender of the Week Monday.

Silverthorn receives his first league honor after backstopping the Raiders to a 2-1 overtime win over fourth-ranked Cornell Thursday night at Starr Rink. He finished the game with a career-high 31 saves on 32 shots. After letting in an early goal at 1:48 of the first period, he kept the Big Red off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

In Saturday night’s 3-1 loss at Lynah Rink, Silverthorn finished with 26 saves and stopped 57 of 61 shots for a 93.4 save percentage in the series.

Thursday night’s game marked Silverthorn’s first start since January 4 at Clarkson and his first ECAC win since the 4-3 win over Princeton on November 8.

¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ hosts Vermont on Friday, Feb. 7 and Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 8 in two key ECAC contests at Starr Rink. Both games start at 7 p.m.
