Native American activist Dennis Banks to discuss current state of ‘Indian Country’

With so many exciting events and activities going on at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ, sometimes it’s hard to choose what to go to. Here are some events you won’t want to miss this week!

On Monday, stop by 101 Ho Science Center at 7 p.m. for a Native American Studies lecture by Dennis Banks.

An Anishinaabe born on Leech Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota, Banks has been a leader of indigenous civil rights since 1968, when he co-founded the American Indian Movement (AIM) in an effort to address civil rights violations of native peoples by law enforcement, government agencies, and organized religions.

Have you ever been to a Women’s Studies Brown Bag at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ? Now’s the time to start! Join Beth LeGere, director of public affairs at Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson, for a discussion about the current state of U.S. reproductive health rights and ways to affect legislative change.

On Tuesday, join University Church and other religious life communities in celebrating the history of Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, and the season of Lent with the annual Mardi Gras Dinner and Dance.

This event aims to bring together the ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ and village of Hamilton communities in celebrating and learning about Mardi Gras.

Be sure to your tickets and come by the Hall of Presidents at 6 p.m. for food catered by Michael’s, music by a live student jazz band, and a night of friends and dance.

If you’ve never been to at Donovan’s Pub, you don’t know what you’re missing! Gather your friends for a team and come on down this Thursday at 8 p.m. to test your trivia knowledge with the chance to win monetary prizes!
