Hamilton, NY — The ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ men’s lacrosse team never trailed and used an outstanding performance by freshman goalie Andrew Jarolimek (Silverthorne, Colo.) to defeat Army on Tuesday evening, 15-8, on Tyler’s Field. With the win, the Raiders improve to 4-5 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League while the Black Knights fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ scored six unassisted goals in the first quarter to take a 6-2 lead.  Sophomore Jason Vasas (Fairport, N.Y.) got on the board first, 13:50 into the game and was followed by sophomore Matt Saxon (Bethesda, Md.) who scored just over two minutes later. Junior Jeff Vander Meulen (Liverpool, N.Y.), freshman Mark Nemith (Albany, N.Y.) and Vasas scored three unanswered goals before freshman Robert Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) converted with 36 seconds left in the quarter.

The two teams traded goals in the second stanza with freshman Reid Diamond (Brookline, Mass.) scoring two minutes in. Senior Nick Gerken (Wilton, Conn.) scored off a pass by senior Scott Herbst (Short Hills, N.J.) to give the Raiders an 8-3 advantage.

Gerken’s second goal of the game proved to be the game winner as he converted a pass from Vasas 48 seconds into the third quarter. Vasas then tallied his game-high third goal with 2:53 left in the third to give ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ a 10-7 lead.

¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ scored five unanswered goals in the fourth quarter as Herbst tallied two and assisted on a goal for Eddie Brennan (Hillsborough, Calif.) while Vander Meulen and Brian Robinson (Denver, Colo.) both scored off passes from Trasolini.

Jarolimek had a stellar evening in goal, facing 39 shots and making 14 saves.
