MANHATTAN STRING QUARTET
IN RESIDENCE AT COLGATE UNIVERSITY

HAMILTON – The Manhattan String Quartet will be in residence at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ November 17 through 19, 1999 to participate in the university’s Core program classes and perform two concerts in the Chapel.
On Thursday, November 18 at 5:00 p.m., the quartet will perform Webern’s Five Pieces for String Quartet. Joscelyn Godwin, professor of music, will give an introductory lecture.
On Friday, November 19 at 8:00 p.m., the quartet will perform two classic works ‘ Beethoven’s String Trio, Op. 9, No. 1 and his String Quartet, Op. 135 ‘ as well as String Quartet No. 12 by Dmitri Shostakovich (written in 1968). A reception will follow.
Quartet-in-residence at ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ since 1986, the Manhattan String Quartet ‘ Eric Lewis and Kenneth Freed, violin; John Dexter, viola; Chris Finckel, ‘cello ‘ is in its third decade as an established ensemble of premier rank. Hailed as ‘a national treasure’ by The Boston Globe, the quartet appears annually in major concert halls worldwide.
