DiNuzzo Leads Men’s Track & Field at Cornell Challenge

ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Louis DiNuzzo (Loudonville, N.Y.) led the Raiders to a sixth place team finish at the Cornell Challenge this Saturday.  He took home a first place finish in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:46.04 and garnered second place honors in the mile finishing in 4:20.30.

Senior Waldemar Auguscinksi (Passaic, N.J.) turned in a throw of 14.91 meters (48’11.00′) en route to a third place finish in the shot put.  Freshman Lucas Meeker (Healsburg, Calif.) came in tenth in the shot put with a mark of 13.29 meters (43’07.25′) while fellow first-year Stephen Salvantis (Shavertown, Pa.) was 14th throwing 12.33 meters (40’05.50′).

First-year Mike Hanlon (Ann Arbor, Mich.) joined DiNuzzo in the 3,000 meter race and came in sixth with a time of 9:00.70.  Nate Rosenthal (West Hartford, Conn.) and Jon Barinholtz (Chicago, Ill.) were 18th and 19th respectively finishing in 9:39.71 and 9:50.18.  Barinholtz also competed in the 5,000 meters where he placed 14th in 16:31.82.

Rosenthal also joined DiNuzzo in the mile run placing 17th with a time of of 4:35.76.  Freshman Andrew Isabel (Andover, Mass.) was 22nd overall with a mark of 4:50.18. 

Georgia natives Mitch Sargent (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Will Arnold (Atlanta, Ga.) had strong showings in the 400 meter dash.  Sargent was fifth in 52.74 seconds followed closely by Arnold with a time of 52.91 seconds. 

Sargent turned in a time of 23.37 seconds for tenth place in the 200 meters.  Alfred Bailey (Surry, Va.) was 14th in 23.56 seconds, while Dan Ellis (Pine Valley, N.Y.) came in 18th in 23.79.  Senior Corey  Stirpe (Halifax, Pa.) ran the race in 23.96 for a 20th place finish and Aaron Brooks (New Hope, Pa.) was 23rd in the field in 25.07.

A cluster of ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ runners competed in the 500 meters.  Geoffrey Bean (Oneonta, N.Y.) was the Raider’s top-finisher in fifth place with a time of 1:07.45.  He was followed by senior Mike Saunders (Albion, N.Y.) in sixth place with a mark of 1:07.95.  Don Boyajian (Clifton Park, N.Y.) crossed the line in tenth in 1:08.99 and John Gillespie (N. Andover, Mass.) was close behind in 12th with a time of 1:09.11.  Greg Smith (LaGrange, Ill.) and Luke Merkel (Arlington, Va.) rounded out the field in 20th and 22nd respectively with times of 1:10.62 and 1:10.94.

Ian Hill (West Hartford, Conn.) was fifth in the 800 meter run scoring points for the Raiders and posting a time of 2:00.15.  Ethan Dodge (Chatham, N.Y.) was 16th in the race in 2:18.23.

Kyle Barrett (Troy, N.Y.) led three runners in the 1,000 meters.  He finished in seventh with a mark of 2:39.92.  Scott DeRoo (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was ninth in 2:41.68 and senior Travis Brooks (River Forest, Ill.) was 11th with a time of 2:44.96.

Three Raiders competed in the long jump.  Andrew Moore (Atlanta, Ga.) was 11th with a leap of 6.55 meters (21’06’).  Alden Ellis (Singapore) was 20th with a jump of 6.15 meters (20’02.14′) while Ethan Dodge was 30th with a mark of 5.32 meters (17’05.50′).

Other teams competing in the meet were Cornell, Albany, Buffalo, Syracuse, Binghamton, and Ithaca.  The Raiders are back in action next weekend as they head to Boston for the Adidas Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m.
