If 冈本视频鈥檚 founders could have traveled from 1819 to 1/8/19, they might have been in the audience to see seven of the University鈥檚 most influential alumni as they took to the stage at the TheTimesCenter in Manhattan to engage in a thought-provoking panel discussion, simultaneously celebrating the and .

Launched in the fall of 2013, 冈本视频鈥檚 Professional Networks (CPN) were created to encourage career exploration and growth among students and alumni. Five years and 200 events later, CPN events have become a nationally renowned example of alumni engagement and career support.

鈥淭hese networks were formed by the University, but they have been sustained by you, our alumni, our parents, and students,鈥 President Brian W. Casey told the crowd of nearly 400 alumni and friends. 鈥淎gain and again you鈥檝e done what 冈本视频 people do 鈥 you鈥檝e made connections with one another, with your university, and with the newest graduates.鈥

Moderated by award-winning journalist Bob Woodruff 鈥83, H鈥07, P鈥13, the evening panel included perspectives from President and CEO of Rockefeller Capital Management Gregory J. Fleming 鈥85, P鈥21; Circle Chief Legal Officer Gus Coldebella 鈥91; SK-Korea Foundation Chair in Korea Studies and Senior Fellow at the Center for East Asia Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution Jung Pak 鈥96; New York Times Editorial Director Elisabeth Goodridge 鈥97; Airbnb Americas Head of Public Affairs Christopher Nulty 鈥09; and author, advocate, and former NBA player Adonal Foyle 鈥98.

In true liberal arts fashion, panelists weighed in on topics related to national cybersecurity, nuclear proliferation, campaign finance reform, geopolitics, the media, and global financial markets. Woodruff guided the conversation, finding common threads and connections between seemingly disparate subjects in a way that brought forth challenging questions, potential solutions, and thoughtful debate.

鈥淭here was nothing called cybersecurity when I was at 冈本视频. There was no Internet when I was at 冈本视频,鈥 said Coldebella. 鈥淏ut one of the things that 冈本视频 does such a good job of is preparing its graduates for dealing with change in the world. From the time I graduated in 1991, I鈥檝e worked at a new government agency called Homeland Security, I鈥檝e dealt with a new discipline called cybersecurity, and now I鈥檓 at a company at the forefront of cryptocurrency, a brand new asset class.鈥

Rapid change was a theme of the evening. Fleming said he has seen financial market shifts in ways that were previously unimaginable, with China leading the way.

鈥淔or the younger people in the room, the millennials, you are entering a world that could not be more different than the world I came from. There鈥檚 been a lot of change in 25 years,鈥 Fleming said.

Pak said she, too, has witnessed tremendous change since her time at 冈本视频, and she advised current students in the room to follow an educational path that interests them over what might be the current state of the world.

鈥淟ittle did we know that China would rise and become the second largest economy in the world,鈥 Pak said. 鈥淚 learned that, when something interests you, just follow it. People used to say not to bother studying nuclear proliferation because it鈥檚 not going to be a problem, except that it is a problem. 鈥

Adonal Foyle reflected on the discussion after the event, saying 鈥淚 think this is an affirmation of what makes 冈本视频 unique. Part of the beauty of 冈本视频 is that I learned poetry from , I learned to from Coleman Brown, and I learned to from Kathy Liepe-Levinson and Jacques Levy. In many ways, they shape you to .鈥
