Burke Garners Patriot League Player of the Week Honors for Women’s Basketball

CENTER VALLEY, PA. ‘ Malissa Burke (Traverse City, Mich./E. Grand Rapids High School) was named Patriot League Player of the Week for women’s basketball after leading ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ to three wins and a four-way tie for first place in the conference.

Burke averaged 21.3 points, 2.67 rebounds, 4.33 assists, and 2.67 steals per game last week to lead ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ to victories over Princeton, Bucknell, and Lehigh. The senior guard tied her season-high with 24 points against the Bison before posting a season-high seven assists and a career best six steals in a 73-62 upset victory over Lehigh.

Burke is the eighth leading scorer in the league with 14.3 points per game. She is averaging 3.0 rebounds, 3.40 assists, and 1.85 steals on the year. She has scored 1,279 career points, the eighth best total in school history and the 24th best total in league history.

The Raiders (13-7, 5-2) are riding a four game winning streak and are on pace to register the first winning season for a ¸Ô±¾ÊÓƵ women’s hoops team since the 1986-87 team was 14-13. Burke and the team will look to continue their winning ways with a home contest on Sat., Feb. 7 against Lafayette at 1 p.m.
